Michael Aaron Rockland launches Nighthawk Books authors series
Sunday March 7, 2010
02:00PM
As a nationally recognized scholar and American Studies professor at Rutgers University, Michael Aaron Rockland has written respected books about the construction of the New Jersey Turnpike and (most recently) the George Washington Bridge.
But Rockland also has a foot planted in the realm of fiction: his second novel, “Stones,” was recently published to good reviews. The different challenges of writing fiction and nonfiction will be the topic of Rockland’s talk set for Sunday, March 7, at 2 p.m. in Nighthawk Books, 212 Raritan Avenue.
Rockland is co-author, with Angus Kress Gillespie, of “Looking for America on the New Jersey Turnpike.” Rockland’s most recent nonfiction book is “The George Washington Bridge: Poetry in Steel.” He has also written two novels: “A Bliss Case” and the recently published “Stones.”
Rockland’s appearance launches the ambitious Nighthawk Books author series. Other writers slated to appear at the Highland Park bookstore are celebrated poet Alicia Suskin Ostriker and advice author Dustin Dumas Weeks.
